Duration: 1 1/2 hours

foodOver lunchtime, tours can be arranged which follow the same format as the daytime tours,but a full traditional meal is served in the village with the family.

The wives of the chief wash the hands of the guests, and then the pots of food are brought from the fire and served. For larger groups, the families from surrounding villages perform their famed Shangaan muchongolo dancing.

Sample menu
This is a sample menu and some ingredients may change according to what is freshly available in the season. The lunch menu does not include the starters, unless requested.

Starters
Starters are passed around on large wooden boards decorated with leaves and wild flowers.

  • Fire-grilled strips of venison with coarse salt
  • Crocodile baked in groundnut sauce Mopani worms pan fried in butter (when in season)
  • Roasted corn wheels

Main course
Served from iron pots, clay bowls and grass baskets, the mains allow guests to taste a wide range of traditional flavours. Guests eat off wooden plates using long, elegantly carved spoons.

  • Chicken stew
  • Honey-glazed sweet potatoes
  • Baked butternut
  • Wild spinach with crushed peanuts or fried cabbage
  • Traditional mieliepap
  • Samp with sugar beans
  • Freshly baked maize bread
  • Salad

Dessert
Desserts are based on the fruits in season, and served on banana leaves.

Skewers of chilled fresh fruit with lemon juice

Drinks not included in price (R12.00 per token)
Drinks are served in handcrafted, glazed clay pots

Beer, wine, sodas, fruit juice, mineral water and popular spirits.
